In the last few weeks (and months..) I've noticed the contractors doing some work doing some work on or near a couple of stations on the eastern end of the Central Line, and I've finally gotten round to asking what it is.
First off is westbound of Woodford - they appear to be sticking a lot of gravel/ballast or whatever it is on a bank at the end of the road leading into the Valley Court. There was also an LU Vauxhall van type thing there before, but it's disappeared, and the clancydocwra rail division vehicles have stayed, moving back and forth and occasionally blocking the road.
Also a couple of things that I've likely only just noticed and have probably been there since the dawn of time - a couple of new security cameras, adjacent to the siding for Woodford via Hainault trains, which can literally bend down if they need to (though a lot of orange vests were present, and they pulled it down), and what I believe is a new signal (which will be 1970s or something) a few hundred yards past the siding.
Next, to Leyton. Simple question here - are they building a new ticket office or something? There's a few holes in the fences, two on the eastbound and one on the westbound past the no entry gates, which are covered up with big blue fencing. From my observations today, it looked like they had Bostwick gates or whatnot.

Also, what are they doing when the Central Line is closed Bethnal Green-Marcle Arch at weekends (though Loughton were saying it was closed Liv St-Marble Arch but the trains were saying Bethnal Green. Confusing or what :/

Last weekend, it was advertised as Bethnal Green to Marble Arch, but it ended up being Liverpool Street - likely because of the match at Wembley.
According to the TfL website, they were doing up stations for the olympics.

Leyton is, I believe, a temporary entrance/exit for Olympic Traffic. From the triumphant newsletters that the council shove through our letterbox, they're not just for the Olympics. Getting out of Leyton in rush hour is madness. Three ticket barriers in the out direction is nowhere near enough, so the side path is going to be a godsend. |

Right, I've decided not to make a new thread, as this is all sort of relevant..
So today, I saw one of the clancydocwra people playing with a red box and other lineside equipment. Any ideas?
Also today, 91047 was held westbound of Woodford at a red signal. Normally, when I pass at that time (3.10-3.15) the Woodford via Hainault terminators are there, in the siding, but this was in the westbound running line, with the two signals at the siding at red, but the next signal further along displaying a white aspect. All very odd. I suspect someone took a wrong turn.
Finally, on the 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th of September, the Central is closed between Leytonstone and Hainault via Newbury Park, so will this mean the return of Hainault via Woodford trains (and some South Woodford terminators..)?

Leyton is, I believe, a temporary entrance/exit for Olympic Traffic. Leyton is an emergency tip out point for Olympic traffic if there are problems at Stratford. |

i thought the stairs and side gate from the eastbound at Leyton was for football traffic even though i never seen it used.

Getting out of Leyton in rush hour is madness. Three ticket barriers in the out direction is nowhere near enough, so the side path is going to be a godsend. Bingo! Use this station everyday and yes it is a bit rough exiting the station at most times of day, let alone the peaks! Generally speaking though for the Olympics I've heard that they're going to redirect all punters wanting to go to the Aquatics Centre (and another part of the site, cant remember what one) via Leyton. This is why there is a 'Leyton Beautification' scheme going on in the area.. Waltham Forest council still haven't come to light with the term 'You cant polish a turd, only bathe it in glitter!' Oh, and a new footbridge has gone in on Ruckholt Road. |

Not sure why they are re-paving outside Leyton station though since they only bloody well done it less than a year ago! Cheek! Leyton Library + all the surrounding buildings are being done up, also the tree lighting further down near Hainult road. Leyton is getting attention and I wouldn't call it a "polished turd" anymore near the station, Bakers Arms on the other hand and I'll accept that comment. The additional exit is much needed, though if it's being put in place why not keep it? It's overcrowded as it is. |

I also hate it when people congregate outside the station for no reason other than to stare at asda! I wouldn't mind if the pavement was quite large but its not and everyone blocks back up to the gate line.
Also the bus stop to the left of the station too going towards Stratford...So many people wait for the buses that serve here forcing people to walk on the road just to get passed. Isn't the first time I've seen someone whacked by a buscar/cyclist after stepping out in the road.
