"I wonder what precludes TfL from hiring locomotives to shunt the C' Stock to the scrap yard? "
@ antje > > > The cost
In this dotty, privatised railway world, it is cheaper to send railway vehicles by road than via national rail tracks.

Most NR related scrap moves are moved by rail. The slammers for example were moved by rail as far as I know.

The original 5606-6606, withdrawn 31/1/91 - Hammersmith to Ruislip - both cars (between L52-B583-B584-L53) 18/5/93. Indeed. I remember watching the formation pass Westbourne Park, that night - post-traffic hours.

Will S7 stock be delivered to Neasden for comissioning? I guess trains can then move under their own power to Hammersmith etc.

I was told a couple of days ago that the first genuine S7 "is on its own wheels". ..... at Derby.

Is the plan still for 3 in passenger service before the olympics or did the S8 issues around Christmas impact this?

Is the plan still for 3 in passenger service before the olympics or did the S8 issues around Christmas impact this? If this is still the plan, time is ticking. Willl they use S8-1's, or pure S7's? If they are using pure S7's, none have yet been delivered. Are any planned to be delivered before the S8 run ends? Then of course there is driver training etc. To be honest, I don't see the point of trying to get 3 S7's in service by the Olympics just for the sake of it. The cnances of getting one in service will be remote, meaning that most visitors won't see one!

To be honest, I don't see the point of trying to get 3 S7's in service by the Olympics "the point" was having more trains available for service during the period. Hammersmith & Circle is limited to C stock - or S7 - and since there is a finite quantity of C stock the *only* other means to more trains is S7, so S7 it has to be, be it genuine S7 or S8-1. -- Nick

Agreed the C stock fleet is tight. Not like the A stock on the Met which had an extra 6 or so trains following the ELL closure.
It is interesting to consider if S8-1 trains would be used rather than waiting for S7 stock to be ready -which is a little time off.

It is interesting to consider if S8-1 trains would be used rather than waiting for S7 stock to be ready -which is a little time off. It seems possible as there are three S8-1s in London, but will the Met need these units back soon? Looking at the allocation lists posted in the A stock formations thread, there appears to be a higher percentage of available A stock in service than S stock. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, as that could've only been the case on those days, but if there are still a few issues with some S stock units would the Met be able to run the full service with a fleet of only 53 trains (assuming that 21001 and 21099 don't arrive soon either)?
