So there isn't any chance of 5000 being out tomorrow?

It is hard to speculate at this time but I am definitely the last peak hour passenger of the week to say the least. The train is, just to clarify, on siding Nr. 21... in fact, I am sitting right in front of it... the lights are out.

I'd expect 5000+5233 to be in service tomorrow. They can't scrap it from Rd 21!

5183 and 6183 look like they won't get collected until after the holiday weekend.

Got 5000 on the 21:33 (ish) off Uxbridge yesterday, as far as Eastcote. Was in a bit of a sorry state, with a graffiti attack inside the DM of 5000. Probably my last ride on it, after saying the same on Saturday...

It should be worth noting that the parts salvage stage is likely to be slower because this weekend is the Easter holiday, so I suspect that depot activity may be more... laid back.

I can't believe they are going to get rid of 5000 since it has a lot of history to it and hoped they would preserve it at the lt museum or somthing. Gutted havnt had time to go and find it this week. Is it working tomorrow by any chance and if.so what times? Apart from myself anyone had good memories traveling in 5000?

Unit 5000 et. al. took me to school, college or university, and back, for 17 years.

5000 was withdrawn because of 'maintenance' requirements - sadly, no point in spending money on it for another two or three months when other units are still 'in date', maintenance-wise.
5000 was delivered on 2/2/61 and I first saw it from the school playground at Alperton one miserable wet afternoon later that month, when it was going from Acton Works to Neasden.

I know 5000 is numerically the first, but given that the first unit is often used for tests (look at 21001), has it the historical significance of being the first in service? If not, which one was?

The first service units were 5004-6004-6005-5005 (scrapped) and 5008 (now 5034)-6008-6009-5009 (now 6234-6235-5235)
